New NOAA Radio Station in Richmond, IN

The National Weather Service will be installing a new NOAA weather radio station in Richmond, Indiana.

The new station, KHB52, will have a transmitter that operates on an assigned frequency of 162.500 MHz at 300 watts of power. The transmitter will serve residents in east central Indiana and west central Ohio, and also will provide regular scheduled broadcasts and tone activation for warnings and watches.

Effective June 28, 2002, an official broadcast service area will be established for the Richmond, Indiana transmitter. The following counties will be included:

In Indiana: Fayette, Franklin, Randolph, Union and Wayne

In Ohio: Darke and Preble

In accordance with the emergency alert system plan, and under the broadcast service area for the Miamisburg, Ohio transmitter at WXJ46, on a frequency 162.475 MHz, the 1050 Hz tone alarm, and same alert tone will continue to be activated for the following counties in Indiana and Ohio:

Fayette, Union, Wayne, Butler, Darke, and Preble.

In accordance with the emergency alert system plan, under the broadcast service area for the Covington, Kentucky transmitter at KIH42, on a frequency 162.55 MHz, the 1050 Hz tone alarm and same alert tone, will continue to be activated for the following Indiana and Ohio counties:

Franklin, Ripley, and Butler

On occasion, the broadcast programming from Richmond may be heard in nearby Indiana counties of Decatur, Henry, Rush and in the Ohio counties of Butler and Montgomery. Therefore, the same alert tone will be activated on the new transmitter for these counties.
